Lt Gov: Blagojevich Out by Lincoln’s 200th Birthday

The Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, said on CBS’s Meet the Press, Sunday, that he was certain Gov. Rod Blagojevich would be impeached and convicted by the Illinois Legislature by Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial birthday celebration on Feb. 12.
According to the Associated Press, Quinn described Blagojevich as “isolated” in his decision-making and surrounded by "tight palace guard" that "tells him what he wants to hear and not what he needs to know."
"He needs to know he's disgraced himself and he's disgraced the people of Illinois," Quinn said.
Quinn said he hadn’t spoken to Blagojevich since Aug. 2007. Blagojevich was arrested on Dec. 9 on charges of allegedly trying to sell Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
Quinn would become governor if Blagojevich left office. He said he would call for a special election to fill Obama’s seat.
If the Illinois House approved the impeachment, the Senate would then hold a trial and would need a two-thirds vote to remove him from office. Quinn said Sunday that far more than two-thirds of the state’s senators are ready to vote for impeachment.
It will be great to have Blagojevich gone (95% sure he'll be removed from office..) - but I do have some sort of twisted admiration for >Blagojevich's defense of himself (NY Times article - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/20/us/20blago.html?_r=1&hp which seems nearly believable, just because it seems so absurd to plead innocent so earnestly.
I suppose these are the same strategic skills that got him into office in the first place. A marketing blog even pointed out that he's doing the best thing for his 'brand' by insisting that he's "a no-nonsense pol doing what everyone in Chicago politics does. . . . He made it clear that he was not going to go without a fight, thereby gaining leverage and reinforcing his tough-as-nails brand." http://blog.marke...-buys.aspx
