San Diego Man Mourns Loss of Family, Forgives Marine Pilot

One day after a fighter jet crashed into his home in San Diego, killing his wife, two baby daughters and mother-in-law, Dong Yun Yoon tries to cope and forgives the fighter pilot who was forced to eject from the failed jet.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Yoon, 37, pressed a handkerchief to his face and seemed to stagger as we viewed the charred remains of his home.
"I believe my wife and two babies and mother-in-law are in heaven with God," Yoon said at a news conference afterward. "Nobody expected such a horrible thing to happen, especially right here, our house."
Yoon said he forgives the Marine Corps pilot who safely ejected just moments before the jet plummeted into the neighborhood.
"I pray for him not to suffer for this action," Yoon said. "I know he's one of our treasures for our country."
The fighter pilot was on a training flight when he began experiencing problems and radioed for help. He was instructed to make an emergency landing at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, located just two miles from Yoon’s neighborhood. Before the pilot could make it, however, the jet failed completely and the pilot was forced to eject.
"Initial indications suggest that engine failure may have played a role, though we will not know for certain until an investigation is concluded," Marine Corps officials said in a statement.
The bodies of Yoon’s wife, Young Mi, 37; his nearly 2-month-old daughter, Rachel; and mother-in-law, Suk Im Kim, 60, were found Monday. The body of his 15-month-old daughter, Grace, was recovered Tuesday.
The Yoons were immigrants from South Korea and had just moved into the neighborhood two weeks ago.
