Obama Criticizes Ludacris Over Rap Lyrics

US Politics Share
It looks like Barack Obama won’t be rapping with Ludacris anytime soon.

BBC News reports that the Democratic candidate is furious over a new song put out by the rap star that trashes his opponents.

Prior to this episode, Obama and Ludacris had gotten along rather well and had even worked on AIDS awareness together.

The song, titled “Politics as Usual,” says that President George W. Bush is “mentally handicapped” and employs a misogynistic word to describe former Obama rival Hillary Clinton. In the song, Ludacris also warns Obama against selecting her as his VP candidate, saying that Clinton “hated on you.”

As for GOP nominee John McCain, the rap star sings that the Arizona senator “does not belong in any chair unless he’s paralyzed.”

The Obama campaign has charged the song’s lyrics as being “outrageously offensive.”

“Ludacris is a talented individual but he should be ashamed of these lyrics,” said Bill Burton, spokesman for Senator Obama.

According to the Associated Press, Ludacris’s publicist has refused to comment.

For his sake, it's a good thing Obama criticized Ludacris. But he must be a little pissed off at Ludacris too, since this will only elevate the race issue and help McCain. I don't know why Obama's supporters are raising controversy; they're only going to get him defeated.

There are two sides to everything. Many people respect the hip hop/rap culture and understand that though lyrics may seem highly explicit and provocative, the meanings behind the songs stand true. Though I have given up on this kind of music of late due to the lack of talent and material currently out, a prominent figure like Ludacris or say Nas draws attention to a wide population that is not given any attention, any awareness, and just looked over.
