Coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are losing coverage times from the three main television networks: CBS, ABC, and NBC.
According to data, the networks spent a grand total of 181 hours of war coverage almost half way into 2008. That is a significant drop from the 1,157 hours of coverage spread throughout all of 2007.
Even though 150,000 soldiers are deployed in Iraq, CBS does not have a constant correspondent in the area.
The cutbacks are accredited to a lesser amount of violence in the area and a loss of interest of the American people.
Senior Vice President Paul Friedman, for CBS News, said that reports from Iraq did not get on televisions with enough frequency to justify “keeping a very, very large bureau in Baghdad.”
Journalists from the three TV networks anonymously said that they feared that their network would withdraw from the Iraq capital after the November elections.
Hah Chris... point is, things are going well in Iraq, and calm and peace doesn't sell half as well as violence and intrigue... The news stations are businesses too, and they're just after a good, juicy, sell-able story.
