Author Derided by Muslim Students in Anti-Semitic Cartoon

Author David Horowitz responded today to his recent controversy at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. David Horowitz, a popular conservative writer, was derided in a Nazi-like anti-Semitic cartoon, put out by the Muslim Student Association.

The cartoon, which was copied and spread around campus, portrays Horowitz, a Jewish man, as a hooked-nose Nazi hiding in a trash can. The cartoon is a direct reference to similar anti-Semitic cartoons circulated in Germany right around the time of the Holocaust. In the crude cartoon, Horowitz has an armband with the letter "H," a direct and tasteless reference to the yellow armbands Jews were forced to wear in the Holocaust, with a Star of David, denoting themselves as Jews. Horowitz has been outspoken on Islamic fascism and was set to speak about it. The cartoon also includes the phrase, "Horowitz Awareness Week."

More than ten students were removed from the hall in which he gave his lecture, and metal detectors were set up in the entrance.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has yet to put out a statement condemning the obviously anti-Semitic cartoon. This may become a bigger issue, as the Muslim Student Association is a campus organization, funded by students of the university and the university itself. The Muslim Student Association, which made the cartoon, has yet to make any public statements or apologies. The Muslim Students' Association has its campus headquarters located inside the Student Union, with its own office. While walking in the Student Union, Horowitz discovered the crude cartoon.

The Muslim Students' Association is a part of the Muslim Brotherhood. The flier also stated support for jihad.

Horowitz said that 2,000 fliers, advertising his speaking engagement, were torn down by members of the MSA.

Horowitz wrote an article about this event, at Frontpagemagazine.com, titled "My Encounter with the Enemy in Milwaukee."

I can't speak for others, but I stand by my statements for myself.

Also note:
Horowitz said that 2,000 fliers, advertising his speaking engagement, were torn down by members of the MSA.

So, we are depending on information from a known racist and islamophobe for this information? Why was the university administration not quoted here? Or some other unbiased source?

Horowitz has been outspoken on Islamic fascism and was set to speak about it.

Is there such a thing as Islamic fascism and why does this writer make such a statement without noting that such a concept exists only in the minds of Islamophobes such as Horrorwitz.

The more I read this article, the more bias I perceive. This should have been under opinion as most of the news part is colored by the reporter's bias.

Fascism is a government, faction or political philosophy that raises nationalism, and frequently race, above the individual and is characterized by a centralized autocratic state governed by a dictatorial head, stringent organization of the economy and society, and aggressive repression of opposition.

Substitute the word nationalism or race in that definition with the word Islam (or Christianity, for that matter) and you've got just what he claimed. Not a hard stretch at all.

From what I've seen of your posts in the past, your objections here are as much a result of your own bias than anything wrong with the thrust of the article.

My own bias? I am biased neither in favor of nor against the MSA nor am I biased in favor of or against jews, christians, negroes, women, women of color, homosexuals or lobbyists.

I AM biased against reporting terms that do not exist except in the mind of Islamophobes without adequate documentation.

Your description of Fascism, btw, adequately describes the right wing of this country, the religious right, certain extreme left-wingers, certain white supremacy groups, certain black supremacy groups, certain latino surpremacy groups, the American Armed Forces, the Boy Scouts, Jesus Camp and most of corporate America.

In other words, as definitions go, it is meaningless in it's generality.

So-called Islamo-facism is an invented term which describes a state that is no different than any other religious state including Israel which is defined by Zionism to be a Jewish State. Which means that the term is essentially meaningless and is used entirely in the attempt to separate muslims into a group to be feared and hated. It has no other meaning and no other use.

Oh, come on, Oldfart, I've seen you blow up at perceived anti-Palestinian pieces before, totally ignoring anti-semitic rants, if not supporting them at least to an extent.

My description of fascism is right out of wikipedia, and is not a definition that is controversial at all. If it describes "the right wing of this country, the religious right, certain extreme left-wingers, certain white supremacy groups, certain black supremacy groups, certain latino surpremacy groups, the American Armed Forces, the Boy Scouts, Jesus Camp and most of corporate America." then perhaps those groups all contain some elements of fascism. But then I think much of that is just your imagination being a bit overactive on this subject.

OldFart, I'm glad you used a Daily Nexus ad in your posting. Luckily for me, I am a graduate of UCSB, and can tell you straightaway that NO ONE reads the Daily Nexus looking for news. It is almost completely an entertainment magazine, with such popular weekly staples as "The Daily Hump," a sex column. Many of the articles are written satirically and tongue-in-cheek. Also, I don't know what planet you're on, but Horowitz has specifically come out before only against Islamic Fascism, a known entity with nutso extremist leaders of the Middle East. And if you have a problem with that, then you have a problem recognizing evil (gasp, yes she said it!) because some of the Middle Eastern political leaders would rather permanently silence thousands of their own people, rather than give up power and welcome freedom.

I'll say it again: Horowitz is not anti-Muslim, and has explained as much before. Your understanding of this situations is off. AND instead of questioning why the MSA would seek to silence and slander a speaker's freedom of speech, you instead seek to make excuses and moral equivalents. What you must have failed to understand is that a SCHOOL-FUNDED, STUDENT-FUNDED ORGANIZATION, WITH ITS OWN OFFICE IN THE STUDENT UNION, slumped to a new low by attacking a man's freedom of speech. And the man isn't anti-Muslim, I'll say it again. Just look up moderate Muslims who agree with his main points, and you'll see. What he often says is that Islam is NOT a fundamentally radical religion, but there are people in the Middle East now who are taking it to an unfortunately radical level. So instead of being an apologist, think about why you're excusing a grotesque HATE CRIME and a flagrant desire to silence one man's freedom of speech.

Oops, I meant "The Weekly Hump," which comes out every Wednesday, or Hump Day. Enjoy!
#18 | rwahrens on May 12 2008 22:21:12
Thanks, Susie, you said it better than I could.

Also, OldFart, read your other post, and , look! Here's a wikipedia link too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamofascism

If you've never heard of Islamofascism, then you've been living under a rock since at least September 11, 2001, if not earlier.

ALSO, the term "Islamofascism" was coined by Muslims. So, ouch.

Tearing down pamphlets is not nice. It may or may not be classified as "speech" depending upon how the Supreme Court eventually gets around to defining it.

Speech in the form of tasteless and even hateful cartoons, name calling, racist diatribes, and a host of other objectionable forms remains speech. Unless the racist is advocating injuring the objects of his or her hatred, it should be protected by our Constitution. Our founding fathers addressed this issue a number of times and were pretty consistent in believing in unhindered speech even when objectionable.

I might point out that a number of our "friends" in allied nations believe and have stated publicly that we are too worshipful of the freedoms ensconced in our Bill of Rights. These allies believe we should be restricting protest and speech in a number of ways. Despite my many objections to the current crop of politicians, I am happy to see that they have resisted bowing down to these influences. It is especially gratifying given the media's stress of how important it is for the US to be liked by other countrys' leaders.
