Rudy Giuliani's Former Aid Charged with Cocaine Distribution

A former aide for presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has been indicted on federal cocaine charges writes The New York Daily News. State Treasurer Thomas Ravenel, once the South Carolina presidential campaign chairman, faces charges for purchasing under 500 grams of cocaine to be distributed among others in 2005. The 44-year-old millionaire real estate developer is charged with distribution of the drug, a charge which can carry 20 years in jail, says U.S. Attorney Reggie Lloyd.
Apparently authorities knew of the allegations concerning Ravenel prior to his election to the post of state treasurer in the fall of 2007. They simply didn’t have enough evidence to press charges at the time. Giuliani’s people have spoken up, writes The NY Daily News, distancing themselves from Ravenel who they say is no longer involved in the former New York mayor’s presidential campaign. “Mr. Ravenel has stepped down from his volunteer responsibilities with the campaign,” said spokesman Mark Campbell.
Giuliani is currently on his way to Iowa today where his numbers in the polls have been trailing other candidates’.
