Xe, the new moniker of the private military company, Blackwater, may soon receive millions of dollars in order to provide services to the U.S. military in Afghanistan.
According to CNN, a Pentagon official revealed Friday that a subsidiary of Xe is qualified to receive a military contract worth millions of dollars that would employ them in the training of Afghan police forces. Five companies were eligible to place bids on the contract, those being ARINC, Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and U.S. Training Center. U.S. Training Center is owned by Xe.
The Pentagon will announce the winning bidder of the contract in March. A company spokesperson for Xe told CNN that government officials, regarding the winning bidder, have not yet notified them.
"We have not been awarded either and have no knowledge of the status of those contracts," said Mark Corallo, spokesperson for Xe, in an interview with CNN.
According to CNN, Xe made bids on a total of two task orders of the contract. The task orders bid on involved logistical support for the training of Afghan police and the actual training of the police.
A Department of Defense statement said that winning bidders will control their awarded task order until August of 2012.
Xe, formerly known as Blackwater, was accused of mismanagement and poor employee practices throughout the Iraq war due to a series of disastrous incidents. They faced a congressional investigation for the practices in 2007.
