The spirit of Valentine’s Day seems to be alive and well in 2010, at least for one Ohio man.
Jeff Ondash, a Canfield citizen whose alter-ego is known as Teddy McHuggin, broke the world record for most hugs given in 24 hours on Saturday, setting the bar at an unprecedented 7,777 hugs. Ondash, 51, set about his goal outside of the Paris hotel-casino in the heart of Las Vegas.
Ondash also holds the world record for most hugs completed in one hour at 1,205 hugs, a record set in 2008 in Boardman, Ohio.
According to the AP, Ondash attempted the record in order to raise awareness and money for the American Heart Association. He added that the goals of the organization are important to him because father and brother both died as a result of heart-related issues.
The previous world record, set last year by Siobhan O'Connor in Dublin, Ireland, was fixed at 5,000 hugs in a 24-hour period.
