According to ABC News, today’s Fort Hood Memorial is scheduled to take place at 1 PM in Texas and it will be attended by families of those who were killed, soldiers and other guests with noticeably heavy hearts such as President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Memorial is expected to be a service that will evoke a wide range of emotions as our country mourns the losses of the 12 innocent soldiers and one civilian who were murdered by the Fort Hood gunman during his rampage last Thursday.
Jake Tapper of ABC News is reporting that President Obama revealed to him that he felt heartbroken as a result of the Fort Hood rampage. Tuesday’s Fort Hood Memorial is going to be open to the public and thousands of visitors are expected to attend it in order to commemorate the lives of those who were tragically killed. President Obama gave a statement in response to the Fort Hood murders after the incident occurred that expressed his desire to prevent a similar occurrence from happening again in the future.
President Obama’s statement read, "We are going to complete this investigation and we're going to take whatever steps are necessary to make sure that something like this doesn't happen again.” ABC’s Bob Woodruff, who is the only reporter to be allowed to visit with troops at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where those who were injured by the gunman are receiving treatment, is reporting that the survivors are in extremely high spirits.
