According to a report by Caltrans, major progress has been made in repairs to the Bay Bridge. As a result, prospects look good for the Bay Bridge to reopen later Monday.
"Things have gone very well overnight," Caltrans spokesman Bart Ney told reporters earlier today. "We completed a lot of the work that we needed to do. It does look like now that we're going to get the bridge open today."
Ney did not cite an exact time for the reopening of the bridge. Although the final tests are wrapping up, crews still need time to clean up, though the heaviest construction equipment has already been moved off the bridge.
With the Bay Bridge closed for six straight mornings, commuters have had to rely on several alternative routes to get around the area. Major train and ferry services have provided more frequent service this week, with BART reporting record numbers in usage over the past week.
