Republican Dede Scozzafava announced her intention to suspend her campaign in the House special election in New York. Scozzafava cited decreasing support as the main reason for her withdrawal.
“It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican,” Scozzafava said in a statement.
Although Scozzafava's name will continue to appear on the ballot in the coming election, she has noted that her current chances of winning are very unlikely. A poll conducted from October 27-29 showed that Scozzafava was quickly falling behind in the polls at 20 percent.
Scozzafava will not be throwing her support behind Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, who is fighting a close battle in the polls with Democrat Bill Owens.
