Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will star in a fourth Mad Max film alongside British actor Tom Hardy, Variety reported.
It is believed Hardy will take the role of "Mad" Max Rockatansky, played by Mel Gibson in the first three movies, the BBC reported. The series revolves around a policeman turned "road warrior" living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, latest release of the series, came out in 1985 and had Gibson co-starring with singer Tina Turner, the BBC reported. The fourth installment of the franchise was first mooted in 2002, though plans to shoot the film in Namibia the following year were subsequently called off.
Gibson will not be involved, but George Miller, who has lately dabbled in children’s movies including “Babe” and “Happy Feet,” will write and direct, the New York Times reported. A release date hasn’t been announced.
Charlize Theron is a South African native and Academy Award-winning star of “Monster.”
