UN torture investigator Manfred Nowak was expelled from Zimbabwe after overnight detainment, Voice of America News reported.
Nowak was dispatched in order to investigate recent allegations against President Mugabe's ZANU-PF party for assaults conducted by related militants against the opposition party. The ZANU-PF deny all such claims.
Nowak stated that his detainment and subsequent expulsion could not have been performed without at least the knowledge of President Mugabe, and strongly implied that the President was at least partially responsible.
The ZANU-PF controlled foreign ministry reported that they refused Nowak entry due to their hands being tied with domestic scandals, leaving no one the opportunity to meet with him.
Nowak has stated that he will not return to Zimbabwe, but has called for a UN human rights investigation into the situation.
