The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge has been closed for an indefinite period of time. The closure occurred after a rod installed during last month's emergency repairs snapped Tuesday evening, forcing the bridge to shut down.
A truck and two cars were hit by the falling rod, however no injuries were reported.
Although repair crews worked through the night to repair the damage, no official statement has been released in regards to when the bridge will fully reopen. Engineers will determine the level of damage caused Wednesday, but initial reports suggest that the repairs could take days to complete.
"We have all the materials on site," Bart Ney, a Caltrans spokesman told reporters. "But there's no prediction as to when we'll reopen."
Other major roadways have taken precautions to handle increased traffic as a result of the Bay Bridge closure. The Alameda-Oakland Ferry has planned to run extra ferries, while state bridges including the Golden Gate Bridge will have fully staffed toll booths.
