The Santa Cruz Mountains in California were devastated last year by a wildfire. Another wildfire has emerged in the area Sunday, with authorities struggling to contain the blaze, named the Loma Fire. 1,200 firefighters are on the scene working to combat the wildfire.
With 600 acres in Santa Cruz County burned to the ground on Sunday, more than 160 homes and structures are threatened by the growing fire. Evacuation steps have already been made, with at least 85 households facing mandatory evacuation notices that will last through Monday at the earliest.
Unfortunately high winds are causing difficulty for firefighters. Although high winds that caused complications on Sunday died down overnight, Monday's weather reports do not look promising. The forecast calls for high winds returning later in the day with low humidity levels remaining constant.
The cause of the Loma Fire is still under investigation.
