Investigation Continues into Missing Florida Girl

Local News Share
Investigators have made no breakthroughs in the case of Somer Thompson, a missing 7-year-old girl in North Florida. Somer mysteriously disapppeared while on her way home from school last Monday in Jacksonville. Investigators on the case are suspecting that foul play might be involved.

Thompson was last seen by her siblings and older friends on their way home from school Monday afternoon. Thompson ran ahead of the group after getting into an argument with them, with the others expecting her to already be home when they arrived.

An Amber Alert was not immediately issues due to a lack of details, including any witness or vehicle information. With no further information developing, an alert was finally issued Tuesday morning. With the declaration of the Amber Alert, over 150 officers are actively searching for Thompson's whereabouts.

Police have interviews most of the sex offenders that live around the area, with plans to extend their search today. With no updates, authorities are asking the public to call in with any tips.

Obviously details have to be completely constructed before authorities release such news to the public, but when it comes to missing children, I think it is imperative for the news to be released more promptly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

There is no mention in this article about the body found in a nearby Florida garbage station. They found a body, of a woman or child, in the area where garbage from the missing child's neighborhood was dumped. But last I heard no ID was available yet. Although it certainly suggests that the girl was murdered and dumped in a dumpster in her own neighborhood which was then dumped where the body was found. But maybe she climbed into one to play or hide and accidently got collected. But if she is not the body in question, it would be an odd coincidence.

The body has now been identified as the missing girl. The mother's pain is almost unbearable to watch. How could any of us cope with such horror. And it sounds like the condition of the body removes any possibility that this was an accident. Who would murder a beautiful little seven year old and dump her body in the trash? We need to hunt these horrors down. They are lock 'em up and lose the key offenders, the kind that make capitol punishment seem like a good idea.
