The Vatican’s chief doctrinal official announced Tuesday that the Catholic Church made a new provision that would make it easier for Anglicans to convert to Catholicism.
Pope Benedict XVI approved the provision to allow Anglicans to keep their distinctive spiritual and liturgical traditions, such as married priests, and still make the conversion to the Catholic faith.
Cardinal William Levada, head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, said “The Catholic Church is responding to the many requests that have been submitted to the Holy See from groups of Anglican clergy and faithful in different parts of the world who wish to enter into full visible communion.” Levada went farther when he said “hundreds” of Anglicans have expressed a desire to join the Catholic Church.
The Anglican’s spiritual leader, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, said the provisions have no negative impact on Catholic communion or of the Catholic Church as a whole.
It is very uplifting when you see two religion groups coming together and uniting. If there are no negative affects against the Catholic joining with Anglicans, then I think it would be beneficial for the Catholic Church to expand.
