Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has announced that he and his Movement for Democratic Change party will "boycott unity" with President Mugabe's party, the BBC reported.
This announcement follows the imprisonment of a senior MDC official, who was detained for terrorism charges.
The two parties agreed to a power sharing deal last February after violence began to emerge from the contested election. Despite this, relations between the two parties have been rocky at best, leading some analysts to suggest that the recent imprisonment was simply the last straw.
The MDC has pledged that it will no longer work with Mugabe's party until the outstanding issues with their power sharing deal have been repaired. In the meantime, the party has completely pulled out of the cabinet and all council of ministers meetings until further notice.
I think it is very important for the two parties to establish peace and reconcile their different point of views. After this takes place, they can then move forward to work together and forming new policies and changes that work for the better of the country.
