Armenia and Turkey were forced to delay an agreement between the two nations at the last minute, the BBC reported.
The agreement was supposed to normalize ties between the two nations after decades of hostility and frost. Plans for the accord had been released as early as April of this year, and the Swiss government had helped to broker it. It was due to be signed in Geneva earlier on Saturday.
Armenia withdrew from the treaty in objection to Turkey's refusal to classify the 1915 killings of several hundred thousand Armenians as "genocide."
The accord would need to be ratified by the governments of both countries to be considered legal, and after a number of protest a large quantity of Armenians believe it will hurt the chances of the killings in 1915 being classified as genocide.
