Sprint released the Samsung Reclaim, an eco-friendly phone built in part from corn-based bio-plastics, on Thursday.
Consumers can purchase the newest “green” phone at Sprint retail stores, Best Buy, and RadioShack for $49.99 when signing a two-year contract with Sprint.
About 40 percent of the phone’s shell is made from bio-plastics, and about 80 percent of the entire phone can be recycled, said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse at a morning press conference at New York’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.
According to Sprint, the Reclaim is only one piece of a larger green campaign that the company is pursuing.
Sprint also hopes to recycle 90 percent of its wireless devices by 2017.
To go along with its environmental theme, the Reclaim is available in the colors earth green and sky blue.
