Lebanon has announced the first fatality in the country due to swine flu; the country reports about 100 more cases of the H1N1 virus. The 30-year-old man was also being treated for leukemia at the time of his death, reported Reuters.
And, although it seems like swine flu has been dying down in recent weeks, experts predict that the virus will have a strong comeback, even as soon as this month. According to United Press International, the flu is expected to become more widespread, particularly as temperatures start dropping, making conditions more favorable for the virus. Vaccines will not be available until mid-October, and those groups more susceptible to the illness (pregnant women, those with chronic diseases, healthcare and emergency medical workers, and children) will receive the vaccination first.
UPI reported that people may be asked to stay away from crowded areas to hamper the spread of the virus. “Pay very close attention to what the CDC and what other public health officials are saying and take it seriously,” public health expert Dr. Bruce Lee told UPI.
