Welcome
Memo to Republicans: you're making it worse

We all hate to lose. It's perfectly human. And when you're down and out, it can be tempting to hold onto every last thread of power you can find for dear life. But when you're a member of Congress, you're not supposed to stomp your feet and whine when there are serious issues to be taken care of.

There are those who thought that once Obama got into office, The Daily Show would be out of joke fodder. Oh, how wrong they were. Even in the minority, the Republicans prove themselves to be a little more ridiculous every day. Nowhere is this more evident than in the coverage of health care reform discussions and Judge Sotomayor's confirmation hearings.

But here's the thing: they're just digging their heels in to prove a point, and it's wasting everyone's time. Sotomayor is going to be confirmed. Even Sen. Lindsay Graham (R - S.C.) has jumped on the bandwagon. Just get over it, already. She's perfectly qualified to do the job, and the more the Republicans question her about her empathy or her background, the more racist and sexist they make themselves sound.

And as far as health care is concerned, the longer they hold things off, the worse things are going to get for Americans. The point is almost moot -- we need a new health care system. They have nothing better to offer beyond half-assed arguments about putting corporations out of business or how awful "socialized" medicine is.

On Real Time with Bill Maher last week, blogger Markos Moulitsas brought up an excellent point: Republicans were on the wrong side of the New Deal, Medicare, civil rights, and the legalization of abortion. When are they going to realize that resisting progress is futile?

America has spoken, and you lost. Grow up.

Republicans have their right to make their point...it might make sence to them..and it is always good to have both the side of the argument..rather than settling with what you have to do

But do modern Republicans make an argument, or do they instead offer half-truths, fear mongering, and outright lies while still claiming to have cornered the market on family values?
The Republicans under Karl Rove founded an unholy alliance between Neo-Con Imperialists and Religious Wingnuts -- and "Karl Rove is the chief of dirty tricksters, having learned
under his mentor, Daniel Sangretti, of Nixon Watergate infamy. With his strong position in the administration, one should always look for the hidden agenda and lies. I remember all of it -- CREEP, the Plumbers, Deep Throat, Judge Sirica, the Saturday night Massacre was it called? Haldemen (Nixon's chief of staff who served 18 months in jail), Erlichman, etc., ....takes me back...."

And it takes us forward, as well. These guys are not wearing "I Like Ike" buttons on there chest and warning us about the military -industrial complex! The idea is to find an emotional issue (like the Birthers have falsely done) that fosters a sense of rage and indignant self-righteousness, and then heat up the base beyond reason into action. Palin is a "Great Divider", as well, and most excellent at exciting the base until it's frothing at the mouth.

With these kind of political tactics and philosophy, of what use is "bi-partisanship" politics? The lies and half-truths and fear mongering has been evident in the campaign for insurance reform...why SHOULD people respect these arguments or the people making them? I hope they inspire decent Americans to stay involved, and continue ridiculing those who speak and act ridiculously...until Republicans stop thinking they can lie, cheat, and intimidate their way back into power.

Sorry, they are not wearing "I Like Ike" buttons on THEIR chest and warning us about the military-industrial complex. The slogan now is "I proudly cling to my guns and my religion". That is not an argument, that is a threat.

That is not an argument, that is a threat.
That's it in a nutshell. It brings to mind the quip that the Republicans are no longer offering a political choice but rather a type of mental illness.

I agree with Kirt8686, a balance of ideas is ideal. But, does the current republican party represent a good balance to the democratic party? It seems like the resounding answer is "No". Republicans are simply doing their job badly, and that is it. The party needs a huge make-over, including finding a new face and reorganizing so that the party seems more like a worthy balance for the democrats and less like whining election-losers.
