A suspect in the murder of two recent University of Texas at Austin graduates has been taken into custody. The young couple, Stacy Barnett, 22, and John Goosey, 21, were found shot to death in their West Campus condominium around 5:00 Tuesday afternoon by friends.
The two Houston-natives were planning a return home to celebrate Goosey’s mother’s birthday that night, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
Nineteen-year-old James Richard "Ricky" Thompson has been charged with the murder of the couple as well as a possession of marijuana, reported the American-Statesman.
According to United Press International, the two families released a joint statement after the arrest, which stated, "We are relieved that a suspect in the murder of our children has been taken into custody. While we understand the public's interest in this case, we are in the process of burying our children, so please respect our privacy."
Thompson was arrested after police made a public appeal for information following the discovery of the murder, reported UPI.
