Moussavi Builds Evidence of Election Tampering

Election contender Mir-Hossein Moussavi released a report containing “irregularities” of the Iranian June 12 presidential election. According to PRESS, the report was prepared by Moussavi’s Committee for the Protection of Votes.

The report accuses incumbent and re-elected President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of abusing his access to the national financial resources to boost his campaign among key politicians and military figures, as well as to bribe the working class for votes.

Further accusations implicate the Interior Ministry and the Guardian Council for publicly supporting Ahmadinejad before and during the presidential campaign. The report also addresses allegations that candidate representatives were barred from attending vote constituencies.

Moussavi’s report also points out that the Ministry had printed 14 million more ballots than the number of registered voters. Registered voters in other countries had previously complained that there had not been enough ballots, even at some locations in Tehran.

Past evidence of “irregularities” was noted by the Guardian in June. The Guardian had reported that at least 30 towns had scientifically impossible turnouts; for example, the town of Taft had a 141 percent turnout rate, and Kouhrang’s turnout rate was 132 percent.

The figures, improbable for exceeding the number of locally eligible voters for at least 70 polling stations, are questionable since no democratic country has displayed such high participation rates. An analyst noted that generally one out of twenty voters tends to be sick or dying or dead, or out of the country.

If The Supreme Leader of Iran called upon former President Jimmy Carter to monitor the election and Jimmy took time away from his busy schedule of trying to remove Hamas from the U.S. government’s terrorist list, would this have made the election more credible?
