This is one fish story that no one is going to believe.
Commercial fisherman Rodney Soloman hooked an air-to-air guided, live but unstable, missile while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, reported the Associated Press.
Soloman kept the missile, which the U.S. military uses for training, on his boat for 10 days before returning to a port near St. Petersburg on Monday.
Experts confirmed that the missile is a U.S. Sidewinder and officials from MacDill Air Force Base said yesterday that there will be an investigation into how the missile ended up in the middle of the gulf, reported firstcoastnews.com.
A bomb squad from the base deactivated the corroded missile in an empty parking lot, according to the AP.
But this was not the only missile Soloman hooked. During the fishing trip, he reeled in a missile that was still beeping, which he quickly dropped back in the water, firstcoastnews.com reported.
It is unknown if Soloman will be charged for missile fishing without a license.
