Do you like them?
Do you dislike them?
Why or why not?
Are they a false sense of security?
Do you use one?
Has it really saved you?

All in all - what is your opinion on radar detectors?
And what is your opinion on the ban on radar detectors - no matter where you live?

Never used one.
Aren't they illegal in most states? NJ is so congested I suspect they can't get a clean reading so they simply pick the one car out of the herd that is doing something besides speeding to get their attention.
Used to be the car getting the ticket was often 'arrest me red'.

I used one when I first got my license(long, long time ago)...my brother bought it for me. What was he thinking???

I agree with you Smurfie. I don't know how anyone could speed with NJ roads because you have to deal with so much traffic.

There are the few states that still permit radar detectors. Maryland and Pennsylvania are two states that allow them, as far as I know.

My ex-husband used to have one. Of course, on top of speeding, he would have those "cool" blue or green LED hood lights, or something that would be in the car that you could see out the window. He got stopped 32 different times by the same cop - Warning the first time, with a requirement for an equipment check. Ticket for $150.00 the second time, with a threat of going to jail, if the cop ever caught him again with the LED lights. The cops up in MD took things really seriously.

I dont use them. I avoid speeding tickets, avoid points, and save on gas.

By the time you pick them up, they've picked you up.

There are laws for a reason. Speeding is dangerous not only for the person speeding but for other motorists. A few speeding tickets and higher insurance might be a detriment and save lives. So I am glad they are illegal.

I routinely travel at 80-85 on the Interstates out in the country. Sometimes with spurts up to 90-100 to get away from packs. Don't like packs. I don't have a radar detector. I've gotten ONE ticket in the last 10 or more years. (Just gave myself the kiss of death).
I was eating a sandwich and didn't see the cop.

I have an excuse. If I go below about 70 miles an hour, I get bored and start falling asleep. After all, I am an old man of 66. I can just see myself telling that to a judge.

Oldfart, u make me laugh!
What a great personality u have!! Wink
I am that person that has to be on the lookout because I will always get caught up with the traffic that is "MOVIN" and be the one that the cop sees or clocks. It seems to be my luck recently!! So far, only warnings.
They say that down here in FL that the detectors will be of no use because of "new technology" that cannot be beaten...at this point!Shock
I know that I wouldn't waste the money on one.

I agree with Mama Kin.
Once you've got them--they've got you. Might as well get your story ready.

no they are talking about sonar...but most states the cops can tell on there radar machine whether someone is using a radar detector anyway, I think so its no use these days because the technology is that good. I saw it on the Discovery channel the show, Mythbusters and they did a show about the police radar and myths that have been talked about on how to avoid it.. it was quite interesting but save your money people

The laws are changing. You used to get out of a ticket with a improper equipment reduction, in NC they have changed it to try to slow people down. I myself have had only two since age 16, I'm 38 now, they allow you 5 mph over, take it, use it, that extra 10 to 20 over only saves you 5 to 10 minutes. In my opinion it's not worth it, and I travel an hour one way to work.
