Taliban leader Mullah Omar boasts of infiltrating the ranks of Afghan security forces

There has been a dramatic increase in attacks on NATO troops serving in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

Warlord and Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has said that militants are infiltrating the ranks of the Afghan security forces that are meant to cooperate with NATO in the rebuilding of the country. According to CNN, Mullah Omar has made a statement encouraging Afghans to turn on the “foreign invaders,” which he believes are NATO troops.

Reports of attacks on NATO forces have been trickling in over the last few weeks, and some number of the so-called “green-on-blue” attacks were expected. But, the number of attacks has become unacceptable. Over 100 have been killed in green-on-blue attacks since May 2007.

On Friday, an Afghan police officer killed two soldiers in the Farah province. On the same day, another two were wounded by an Afghan officer in another province.

NATO commander Gen. John Allen, has ordered all troops to carry loaded weapons at all times, regardless of their job.

CBS News reports that Afghan security forces have attacked their Western allies 31 times in 2012, and 39 NATO troops have been killed.
