Human foot mailed to Canadian Conservative party in Ottawa
A blood-stained box containing a severed human foot arrived at the headquarters of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative party in Ottawa on Tuesday.
A secretary first attempted to open the package but refrained upon the sight of the blood on the box. A haz-mat team was called to the scene and held 12 people in quarantine before determining that the foul-smelling package did not pose as a health hazard to those around it. A coroner later determined that the package content was a human foot.
The address on the box only listed the Conservative Party of Canada, not specifying any individual recipients.
“If someone actually did send something in the mail, that’s just abhorrent,” Conservative Member of Parliament Brad Trost declared. ”I hope it has nothing to do with anything with politics. Hopefully it’s just somebody’s idea of a stupid joke.”
Talk of a note accompanying the foot has surfaced, but the rumor has not been confirmed. Former investigator Glenn Woods says that the existence of a note would help determine who the party is dealing with.
“Organized crime generally will keep a low profile. They would never do something like this to bring attention,” Woods reasoned. “Their motivation is money. Short of making an example of someone who, for instance, is an informer, I have never seen then get involved in this kind of thing, particularly with a political party.”
An investigation is taking place to determine whether the foot is related to a human torso found in a suitcase in Montreal the same morning. Police say it is too early to make a connection between the body parts and that autopsies of both parts will give more information.
