Chinplants becoming increasingly popular
“Chinplants” are quickly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, chin augmentations grew more than Botox, liposuction, and breast augmentation combined in 2011. Both men and women are getting the procedure, the largest age group being those who are 40 or older.
The trend is believed to result from an increasingly image-based society. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter and video chat services like Skype and Oovoo are making people more self-conscious and aware of their perceived imperfections.
Today Health reports that people are also trying to appear more like celebrities who they consider successful. Many want to look like the strong-jawed Jennifer Aniston. In addition, strong chins have been seen as signs of business savvy or leadership. Presidents Clinton and Obama both have strong chins.
A 2007 study of the top Fortune 500 companies found that 90 percent of the chief executives had chins that were stronger than the average population’s. In a time where it is increasingly difficult to move up in your company, let alone find a job in the first place, people really think that chinplants will help.
Patients should always remember that any cosmetic surgery does not ensure happiness. All you’re guaranteed from a chinplant is a bigger chin. You have to create your own positive body image and self confidence.
