Real time traffic for Google Maps

An exciting new feature is being added to Google Maps. Real time traffic has been added to Google Maps directions to reflect actual traffic conditions.

Google Maps directions can now tell you the estimated time it will take to get to your destination. This is a step up from the previous traffic condition checker, which only showed the traffic conditions based on historic traffic data. It will now show up-to-date and current traffic.

PC Mag reports that the previous traffic function had been removed last summer because it was not the best guide. Now, it has been reinstated and will be refreshed constantly to show the most accurate and updated data.

This new data will come from Android users who choose to utilize the My Location function on their devices. They enable their location services and allow themselves to be anonymously tracked. So the more people that turn on this option, the more beneficial it will be for everyone.

“It takes almost zero effort on your part — just turn on Google Maps for mobile before starting your car — and the more people that participate, the better the resulting traffic reports get for everybody,”  said an engineer for Google Maps.

This will no doubt be immensely helpful and useful for those traveling. It will shows various routes to take and estimated time to reach a destination.

Wow! This would have been great especially for places I’ve never been to during the traffic rush. Is this feature added already? I know when I put an address in Google Maps they have different routes but I’m not sure if that’s based on traffic.

I wonder if the feature has been added at all. I think it’s great but is also kind of dangerous. How do drivers check google while driving behind the wheel? Isn’t that as dangerous as texting and calling while driving if not any more dangerous?
