San Francisco travelers can relax in new yoga room
Travelers passing through the San Francisco International Airport have a new way to spend time between flights.
The airport has opened a yoga room in the remodeled Terminal 2.
Michael C. McCarron, director of community affairs for the airport, says, “As far as we know it’s the first (yoga room) at an airport anywhere in the world.”
Airport Director John L. Martin said the room is “another leap forward in providing our travellers the opportunity and space to relax and decompress on their own terms.”
According to the Associated Press, any passenger with a ticket has access to the room. There are some chairs and yoga mats but there are not any instructors or televisions. There are also rules prohibiting shoes, food, drinks, or cell phones in the room.
San Francisco Airport Duty Manager John Walsh says people have already begun visiting the yoga room.
“I’ve seen people using it. They do yoga,” Walsh explained. “We have mats, but some people actually bring their own.”
Reuters reports that Gensler Design, the architects of the room, designed low and warm lighting to provide an escape from the bustling and bright concourse.
Terminal 2 is also home to the Berman reflection room, which is an area for people to meditate and enjoy the silence.
