Mom in Mickey Mouse costume causes school lockdown
Coming to your child’s elementary school dressed as Mickey Mouse should win Mother of the Year, right?
Guess again.
An Ohio mother decided to dress up as Mickey Mouse for her daughter’s Valentine’s day party at school. She also decided not to fill in the school’s teachers and administrators on her plan, Yahoo! News reports.
After signing in as a visitor, Mom thought it was a brilliant idea to sneak into the bathroom and emerge as the bow tie wearing mouse. No one recognized her as she greeted kids and likely made other parents a bit uncomfortable. Some of them probably wish they had come up with the idea until school administrators began to panic.
Mom had slipped back into the bathroom and returned to her normal attire, while the teachers found no trace of Mickey. They thought he had slipped away on purpose.
Speaking with The Vindicator, Superintendent Dante Zambrini said the parent did not inform the school of her costume choice. Then, when Mickey Mouse went missing, administrators thought the character was on the loose and could cause a hazard for the children.
“It was a case of, Mickey Mouse was here, and then he was missing,” Zambrini said. “Our building principal called our school resource officer and the building went into lockdown as a precaution.”
Luckily the lockdown went well. “We do practice lockdown drills,” Zambrini continued. “This is the one time we’ve had to put it in effect.”
Schoolboard member Jeff Barone has a child who attends the school and said as a parent he was pleased with the school’s response.
“It was awesome to see everything go into effect,” Barone said. “Hopefully, we’ll never have to deal with anything like this again.”
