KKK leaves flyers in GA town
Recruitment flyers for the Ku Klux Klan were distributed to homes in Newnan, GA Sunday.
“Neighborhood Watch: You can sleep tonight knowing the Klan is awake!” read the message on the flyers. The phone number and website for the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan were also on the material.
Officials in the community of Churchill Park attempted to remove the material from driveways but were unable to keep them from generating anger among residents.
“We do not approve of anything like this and sure don’t want you in our neighborhood,” Newnan resident Billie Duykaa said.
“You should be able to work and live without fear,” Elaine Beasley, another resident, said.
The Newnan Police Department stated that they do not know who distributed the flyers, but they are in violation of a city ordinance.
“The ordinance here is if one wants to give out flyers, they’re supposed to come by and get a permit,” Chief Douglas Meadows said.
“I’ve had hundreds of calls to the Traditionalist American Knights hotline thanking us for the flyers we put out, telling us they appreciate us, and that makes it all worthwhile,” Frank Acona, leader of the Knights, said. He added that he did not distribute the flyers but that they did originate from his organization.
